In the world of film, there is never a shortage of anything new and interesting. And, this weekend, Salt Lake City will be host to the inaugural Woodbury Film Festival.

Put together by Dezi Barr and Chris Adler, both local filmmakers, Woodbury Film Festival boasts an impressive line-up of features and shorts over three days, Friday, March 8th through Sunday, March 10th.

With entertainment from Teilani and special effects makeup with Harlow FX, the three-day festival kicks off at 6:00PM, Friday, March 8th. Following this, at 8:00PM, the opening film Off the Rails will screen. Off the Rails won for Best Feature and Best Actress at the Liverpool Film Festival in 2018 and it is sure to be well-received by festival attendees.

It’s not long after the ‘summer of love’ and freedom is the byword of existence as Chris, Liam, & Manny are floating aimlessly in this youth-fueled counter culture. Equally lovable, as they are inept, the three friends decide to open a bar without any previous ability or concept of what it takes. Through the trials and tribulations of their journey, they come to discover who they are as individuals and what they really want in life.

With Day 2 starting at 10:00AM on Saturday, there will be a block dedicated to mental health and special guest Brian Higgins will be speaking and representing “Create Reel Change.” Following a day of selected titles, entertainment from Mel Soul can be enjoyed during the after party.

Festival organizer Dezi Barr shared with me that, “We find it important to be inclusive of all art forms and aim to bring filmmakers and artists of all levels together by celebrating visionaries. This year we bring music and film together. We’re excited to see the transformation and realization of how we can all relate to one another on some level.”

Other notable titles that will be included in the festival’s lineup are:

  • The Rise And Fall of The Brown Buffalo, from executive producer Benicio del Toro
  • Burying Mitchell, starring Sharon Conley
  • Long Haul, by Bryan Fugal
  • 72 Minutes, by Phil Woolley

The third, and final, day of the festival on Sunday begins at 10:00AM and lasts all day with an awards ceremony, hors d’oeuvre, and a comedy set to end the night and the festival.

Woodbury Film Festival promises to make attendees think and question, and it’s a great opportunity to meet like-minded individuals who share a passion for film. It is my hope that this inaugural year for the festival will be followed by many more and that it will continue to give filmmakers and artists the chance to show off their accomplishments. This event is a welcome addition to Salt Lake City and surrounding communities.

The festival will be held at Creative Guild Studio:

2670 South 2000 East
Suite 205
Salt Lake City, Utah 84109
